Join fresco master iLia Anossov for a hands-on introduction to the art of painting on fresh plaster on January 25th and February 1st, 2014. On the first day of the workshop, explore plaster preparation and cartoon-making through lecture and demonstration. On the second day, explore cartoon-transfer methods, raw pigments, and painting techniques through demonstration and studio practice. Each participant completes a buon fresco tile.
During the first day students will learn about foundational principles of the fresco painting medium via lecture and hands on demonstration of all steps needed in preparation for the painting day
In addition to didactic fresco panels that will illustrate every step of the Roman fresco as practiced during the antiquity, the class will visit the collection to view the actual fresco fragments from Pompeii.
Lecture and demo is accompanied by onscreen display from the chapters of the Buon Fresco Painting Foundations tutorials (more about fresco video tutorials) will help to identify and understand the differences in Roman and Renaissance fresco practices.
Students will be prepared to attend the second day and successfully paint their own buon fresco!
